<br />
So it was a cold and wild January in Connemara when my hubby and I moved in to our new house finally in Rusheeney, Oughterard. Many thanks to our brother in law, John who came all the way from England to help with 9 van loads of removals, 5 of which included workshop related equipment, stock and materials!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
After getting settled in to the house- putting up curtains, decorating
and the like it was on to the important job of getting the Workshop
ready.....<br />

The workshop was a well built Stone building, and while I was busy at Showcase
Ireland 2013 Douggie started to Insulate the roof, and lower the Ceiling

Next it was on to designing and custom building (by Douggie) the working area in the most efficient way for the way I create my ceramics. Our old mangle (slab roller) was integrated into the worktop for smooth ease of production. The worktop is also slightly higher than most- perfect for a 6ft 2 Ceramicist like me, with pressing racks and drying racks underneath.<br />

This year we will exhibiting at the National Craft and Design Fair at the RDS in Dublin from the 5th- 9th Dec for the first time. We are teaming up with Paul Coyne of Nine Design, so here is a little bit about Paul and his gorgeous Jewellery....</h3>
Paul Coyne loves to work with contemporary design. That passion led
him to study furniture design at G.M.I.T. Letterfrack and then to a job
in the construction industry. However, the financial downturn saw Paul
lose his job, an event he saw as an opportunity to re-invent himself.
So, continuing to use the medium he always loved to work with, Paul set
up his own company, Nine Design, and began designing a range of
jewellery made from wood.
<br />
Designing and producing his pieces from a workshop just outside
Tullamore in County Offaly, Paul initially used only wood but soon
realised that adding colour to each piece was going to be what set it
apart from other wood jewellery makers. Resin was the ideal material to
use to achieve the designs he had in mind. Thus, Paul’s first complete
range was born – stunningly simple wooden pendants, earrings and cuff
links with coloured resin inlays.<br />
Soon Paul wanted to diversify and looked into producing pieces using
sterling silver, while maintaining his use of resin for splashes of
colour. The result is another simple yet sleek and contemporary range
which includes pendants, earrings, rings, bangles and cuff links. A
unique feature of this range is that the rings and bangles can be
stacked side by side to create a whole new look which the wearer can
change about to suit their outfit or mood!<br />
Paul, buoyed by the love and support of his family, loyal friends and
an ever increasing circle of fans of his work, pushes his commitment to
his craft tirelessly and consistently. He never sees any setback as a
negative, rather he sees it as a positive through which he can further
improve and grow his business. His strength of character and unending
flow of creativity and imagination means he has become a well known
designer in the region who is sought after by the style conscious.<br />

I was delighted to have the opportunity to produce an exclusive range of work for The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in London and Wakehurst Place, in West Sussex.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I collected a variety of leaves from both sites to produce pieces exclusive to each location. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I wanted to find leaves that were not only special to The Royal Botanic Gardens, but ones that are also familiar and well know to The Royal Botanic Gardens visitors, which they may also have in their own Gardens or local environment, such as Oak, Birch, and Sycamore. </div>
<br />

<span class="textteaser"><b>The first international "Fascination of Plants Day"</b>
will be launched under the umbrella of the European Plant Science
Organisation (EPSO). The goal of this activity is to get as many people
as possible around the world fascinated by plants and enthused about the
importance of plant science for agriculture, in sustainably producing
food, as well as for horticulture, forestry, and all of the non-food
products such as paper, timber, chemicals, energy, and pharmaceuticals.
The role of plants in environmental conservation will also be a key
message.</span><br />
<b>Everybody is welcome to join this initiative!</b>
We invite you to organize for the 18th of May 2012 a fascinating
activity related to plants attracting and interacting with the public. We invite many others to join, ranging from
schools to horticulture and anyone who feels to have a suited
contribution to this initiative.<br />
Many plant science institutions, universities, botanical gardens,
and museums, together with farmers and companies, have already announced
that they will open their doors, with a variety of plant-based events
for all the family. Also, the media are invited to join in, and
scientists, farmers, politicians and industrialists will discuss with
them and present the latest state-of-the-art research and breakthroughs
in the plant science world and explore all of the new potential
applications plant science can offer.<br />
The Fascination of Plants Day will be backed up by a range of
events in public spaces, theatres, cafes, central city squares and parks
designed to get everyone thinking about plants.<br />
<b>Plants are fascinating.</b> From one little seed, planted
into soil, many green lives can arise - from small herbs up to big
trees, or from ornamental flowers to substantial crops which all animals
and mankind need to survive on this planet. Plant biologists estimate
the total number of plant species roughly to be about 250,000. On the
back of this coordinated activity we hope to plant many virtual and
constantly germinating seeds in the collective mind of the European and
World Public that plant science is of critical significance to the
social and environmental landscape now and into the future.<br />

She studied Art, Design, and Textiles, and it was at the age of 17 years she discovered Pottery and went on to study A' levels in the subject, and was hooked. Completing an Art Foundation Course, where she specialized in Sculpture, she went on to a Degree Course in Wood, Metal, Glass, and Ceramics at Manchester Metropolitan University, transferring to The Kent Institute of Art and Design for her last two years. It was here that she discovered Porcelain and began working with her Smocked fabrics for her final Years work, drawing on her experiences, and interest in Textiles.</span><br />

More of our work can be found at our stand within Creative Island C9, at the show...<br />
<br />
Ordinary Heroes Spring- Summer 2012-13 <br />
The apparent simplicity of this trend belies the real luxury that is at its core. Consumers with a conscience look for a pensive, romantic look to convey their depth of thought. The well-travelled individual knows the value of comfort and has a keen sense of quality that speaks for itself, without need for in-your-face, flashy style.<br />
Soft colour and flowing shapes aid and abet the sophisticated modern traveler to get to their destination in chic comfort. Tonal neutrals convey a delicate air. Biscuit and beige shades are given gentle depth with soft pinks and faded blues.<br />
Cottons and linens with lace detailing create garments with a clean, timeless style. Embossed ceramics, touchy-feely velvets and crocheted soft furnishings bring the dreamy air into the home.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
A very exciting week for Living Ginger Designs- we have finally ordered a new Kiln. After struggling with a very Small Hobby Kiln which I brought when I graduated in 2000, a very reliable if over-worked kiln will now be joined by a larger and brand new model. No more struggling to fit everything in... Just 4 weeks to wait while it is being made... <br />
<br />
Lets hope Mr T likes it as much as this one. </div>livinggingerdesignshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12901670463944083973noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-399308229296706315.post-51367200331290705912011-03-22T14:30:00.000-07:002011-04-14T14:25:32.703-07:00New Showroom<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7BHK6PzrwkL39I7LBThwfq1YP81l5LeoK8ECdZ66GA4kM2170ytKshAiGuHL8UpGJ8qYMbwCpTzSwH4ZHyAwozxTV1018yAlWYdJgybP74_rhWjGF5kY0fOaVmZ7zS1deRDsXKPiF-8w/s1600/showroom+2.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7BHK6PzrwkL39I7LBThwfq1YP81l5LeoK8ECdZ66GA4kM2170ytKshAiGuHL8UpGJ8qYMbwCpTzSwH4ZHyAwozxTV1018yAlWYdJgybP74_rhWjGF5kY0fOaVmZ7zS1deRDsXKPiF-8w/s200/showroom+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587021336818669298" /></a><br />
