Galway Potters Market 2012

Following the success of last year's event, and the desire of the majority of last year's participants and requests from the public, the Galway Potters' Market will take place again this year.

This years event is planned to run over 2 day's, on Thursday 26th July and Friday 27th July, during the Galway Arts Festival, with up to 20 participants. The venue will remain the same at the Spanish Arch in Galway City, and we will have some demonstrations and a 'hands on' opportunity for the public.

Price has yet to be fixed, however funding possibilities are being looked into, however since we are no longer in the 'year of craft', opportunities will be less than last year. We will try to keep the the fee as low as possible.

Creative Island 2012

Our first year exhibiting within the Craft Council of Ireland's selected area of Creative Island, at Showcase 2012 was very interesting, we got to meet not only New Retail customers, and Gallery owners, but Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon and members of the Crafts Council we had not had the chance to meet until now, including the Chief Executive Karen Hennessy.

Prior to the official Opening of the Show we were asked to meet with President Michael D Higgins, where we introduced him to our Ceramics and presented him with a piece of our work.

As mentioned in my previous post our Large Wave Vessel was selected as on Trend for Spring Summer 2012, under Ordinary Heroes and was Displayed in a gorgeous trend area at the entrance to the RDS. While it was also selected in the top 50 New Products at the show, and displayed in the special area in the Shelbourne Hall, along with the central display area of Creative Island.

We have been selected by the Crafts Council as on Trend for the 'Ordinary Heroes' Trend for Spring- Summer 2012-13, and we will be showing our work in the Trends area at Showcase 2012, at the RDS, Dublin.

Ordinary Heroes Spring- Summer 2012-13

Galway Craft Month

Galway Celebrates Year of Craft 2011 with a diverse range of dynamic events and programmes that showcase the very best of Galway Craft.

Galway County Council and Galway City Council are highlighting and celebrating the crafts in Galway through a month of craft. This month, from October 10th to November 10th 2011, will have a diverse range of dynamic events and programmes that raise awareness and showcase the very best of Galway craft. As part of the promotional campaign for Galway Craft Month a brochure has been produced to include details of a series of craft events and programmes that will take place throughout the month.

Crafty Afternoons
Demonstrations of Craft creation in, jewellery, pottery, textile, glass and wood/ paper. The store is also open weekdays from 10.30am to 6pm and Sunday from 1.30pm to 6pm.

Le Grá Craft Studio and Gallery, Claregalway Shopping Centre, Co. Galway opens for Galway Craft Month on the 10th of October to showcase the unique talents of Galway craft-makers, artists and designers. Galway's First Potter's Market will be taking place at Galway City Museum Courtyard, Galway,
Thursday - 21st July 2011, during the Galway Arts Festival. From 10am to 7pm.

There will be 15-20 Potters and Ceramic Artists, selected to reflect quality and diversity of work, providing makers with a unique selling opportunity, and the public with a strong focus on ceramics.

There will also be some demonstrations, a clay workshop area, and an information stand.

Our Small Letters Range of cute Porcelain Boxes are now available in 'Cupla Focal' or 'A few Words' in Irish from Sliding Rock Contemporary Ceramics at Ceardlann, Spiddal Craft Centre. The perfect setting to launch this new Range in the heart of the Gaeltacht region of Connemara.

They are available in: Le Gra- with Love, Seodra- Jewellery, Cailin Beag- Baby Girl, Buachaill Beag- Baby Boy, and Baisteadh- Christening, to join the collection recently launched at Showcase Ireland 2011 earlier in the year.

I have greatly enjoyed creating these pieces and teaching myself a non- Irish Speaker a few words....and thanks to Rob D'eath at Sliding Rock for the request!

New Kiln

A very exciting week for Living Ginger Designs- we have finally ordered a new Kiln. After struggling with a very Small Hobby Kiln which I brought when I graduated in 2000, a very reliable if over-worked kiln will now be joined by a larger and brand new model. No more struggling to fit everything in... Just 4 weeks to wait while it is being made...

Lets hope Mr T likes it as much as this one.

THURSDAY, APRIL 7 - SUNDAY, APRIL 10 - THE BONEYARD ARTS FESTIVAL at Heartland Gallery

This annual Champaign County festival, presented by 40 North/88 West and sponsored by The News-Gazette and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, celebrates the arts in a variety of venues throughout the county. Saturday, April 9 is the designated day for downtown Urbana events. Heartland Gallery will again be a venue and will feature local watercolorist Shoshanna Bauer, who will be available for an informal afternoon (1-5pm) reception and an evening (6:30-8) wine reception, and will be showing her framed original paintings as well as her fine art giclee prints and cards. Shoshanna's watercolors will be on exhibit through Saturday, April 30, but can be purchased at any time.

We will also be showcasing new functional and decorative Irish ceramic artworks by Louise Browne (Co. Galway), Thomas Diem (Co. Meath), Michele Hannan (Dublin), Ray Power (Kilkenny) & Colm de Ris (Dublin), and recycled handblown glass by Terence McSweeney (Killarney). We will also have live music performed by local blues/roots guitarist John Elder from 1-2pm, several members of "Don't Ask" performing klezmer music from 2-3pm and “Tastes Like Chicken,” a local trio comprised of Gina Cassidy, Rebecca Grosser, and Roger Bowen, performing bluegrass and some Irish tunes from 4-5pm.

Under our outdoor awning will be romantic scenes from Shakespeare performed by actors sponsored by the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts from 3:30 to 3:45pm.

Special Boneyard Arts Festival Hours: Our expanded hours at Heartland Gallery during the festival will be Thursday (10am-5pm), Friday (10am-5pm), Saturday (10am-9pm) and Sunday (Noon to 4pm). Adult Pottery Workshops

Adult pottery workshops will be starting again at the end of September in Oughterard, with local Ceramicist Louise Browne; for both Beginners and Intermediate (those with some experience/ or who completed the previous beginners course). Both Pottery Workshop will run for 5 weeks and cost €75 for 1.5 Hr evening sessions.
The Beginners workshops will cover: tools, thumb pots, coiling, mark- making, slab- building, students own projects, and the glazing of completed pieces. While the Intermediate workshops will be working from set briefs to produce more individual work.

Both are to be held at Clann Resource Centre, Station Road, Oughterard.
